Are Carbs Still Evil?
A few years ago, high protein, low carbohydrate diets were all the rage. Fast Food restaurants had burgers with no bread on the menu. Fries, chips, and crackers were out. Bacon, eggs, and steaks were in. People seemed to lose weight while they were on these diets. I was one of them. But these people seemed to gain back the weight they lost while on these diets. Again, I count myself among those in the yo-yo group. I just wonder what people are eating now that the low carb craze seems to be over. I mean, I can order a sandwich with bread at a deli and people don’t look at me like I just ran over the neighborhood squirrel. I can have crotons on my salad again without my sister telling me that the crotons alone are what are keeping me in that double-digit dress size. It’s a good thing too, because I love my croutons. The point is, I’m eating breads and pastas again and I feel great and have even lost a little weight. But whenever I need to drop a few quick inches I know exactly what to cut (besides all the other good stuff) – carbs. How does everyone else feel about carbs? I see a lot more people eating hamburgers with buns and snacking on fries. I also see that people are still struggling with their weight, perhaps now more than ever. Do we still consider carbs to be evil? If not, what’s the latest blasphemous term in regards to the human diet. Diet soft drinks? Candy? Chocolate? Goodness, if chocolate is the new blasphemy for diets I’ll have to move south so I can prepare for my fiery destiny. A girl can never give up on chocolate. I’d love to hear your thoughts.
