Running and pregnancy

Running while being pregnant may sound strange to some people, however it has helped many pregnant women to have a very fit and easy delivery. I have been a runner for years, so I decided that as long as my body and my doctor allow me I will continue with my running routine. Of course it was not like putting my lucky Garmin running watch on and preparing for the next marathon, I had to listen to my body and run as much as I could.

This way you can also make running an amazing part of a healthy pregnancy. Running helped me in improving on my morning sickness, keeping a healthy weight gain, preparing my body for delivery.

You can run once or twice a week but don’t overdo it. Always keep in mind theses few tips while running, especially if you are pregnant.

§ Make sure you drink a lot of water before, during and after running. Lack of fluids in your body will reduce the blood flow to the uterus, which causes premature contractions.

§ Always remember to do proper warm up before you run, and very gentle stretching after running. Again don’t overdo it as it may cause injuries.

§ It is wise to invest in a nice sports bra; it will give a better support your growing breasts.

§ A good shoe is vital for running; it will give your feet ample of support.

§ If you decide to run outside, avoid high traffic areas. Remember to carry your cell phone always in case of an emergency or try not to run alone.

Even though labour and delivery is a difficult time, I felt much strong and prepared because of running during my pregnancy. I hope this information will help you as well.
